The QCT maps load fine but appear slightly blurred using AlpineQuest. Is this normal as the QCT maps are sharp using the free MM Tracker or a trial version of Memory Map.

Depending on the zoom ratio you are using, the map can be slightly blurred, yes.
AlpineQuest regenerate the map at fixed zoom levels (you can see this while zooming), independently from the scale of the current map.
It means that the map will be only displayed at fixed zoom levels, and the map data will be down-scaled or up-scaled to match an AlpineQuest zoom level.
