[closed] Track length in Landmarks LONGER than in details

I understand that the track length reported in the Landmarks summary is calculated from the "raw" GPS data and includes a certain amount of extra distance due to the inherent "jitter" of GPS location fixes. I also understand that AlpineQuest applies an algorithm to attempt to cancel out this "jitter" to display a more accurate length on the track details screen. But how can the length on the track details screen be LONGER than that reported in the Landmarks summary once overlapping data is removed?

Today, I went for a hike that the Landmarks summary reported as 9.94 miles (which I believe to be roughly accurate from prior experience on this trail). But the track details screen shows the length as 13.33 miles.

Thank you for your help!

Hi and thanks for asking here,
You have clearly understood the track details in AlpineQuest and you are completely right to ask why the "cleaned" track is longer than the raw one, which is really weird.
I never noticed something like that during my hikes, so without any data it's very difficult to look at this issue. Could you send me the GPX file that contains the track so I can find what's wrong?
Best regards

Thanks for the file.
I had a look at it and I think I found whats the problem.
It seems you recorded two different hikes, and both have been exported in the same track.
Long click on your track, and select "Browse". You will then see the 3 track segments corresponding to the GPS tracker sessions (first two ones correspond to one hike). You can get details on each parts.
That's also why you get 337 hours on the overall statistics (total time between the start of the first hike to the end of the last hike).

What you can do is:
- Duplicate your GPX file (using your PC file explorer or an Android file explorer, unfortunately AlpineQuest is not able to do it right now).
- Browse the first file using AlpineQuest, and browse the track to display the 3 segments.
- Remove the last segment (long click on it, then "Delete").
- On the other file, remove the two first segments.
You will then have to file containing your two hikes, and you will get better statistics.

From my side I will also work on it to make things more clear.
Let me know if you are alright,
Best regards

That explains it. I will be more careful to clear the tracker after each use. Thank you!
