[closed] Zooming out on current map?

Hi

Another suggestion... increase the zoom out range.

Currently I can load a map (say 1:50k) I created using MOBAC, but if I then load (focus) a previously recorded track that is 30 or 40 miles I can only see a small portion of it on my screen. I have to scroll the screen a lot to see the other end of the track. If I drag the zoom bar I can zoom in a great deal, x10 (which is very useful for seeing detail at any map level) but I can't simply zoom out beyond x1.0. It would be great if I could zoom out to say x0.5 or even x0.1, quickly re-center the map and then zoom back in, all without having to load a new map.

I can press the '-' button to load a lower resolution map but then I lose the 1:50k detail (I'm in the UK and OS 1:50 maps are brilliant for reading the terrain) and loading the new map can take a while. I then drag the new map a few cm and have to click the '+' button so re-load the 1:50k map which takes even longer.

I've created maps with MOBAC that cover the whole of Wales in the UK, so 1:50k takes maybe 20 seconds to load, but 1:25k can take well over a minute. I don't mind waiting 1 minute if its just once when I start the application, but if its every time I want to look around the map a bit it gets annoying.

I'm aware that I could create smaller .aqm files so they'd load quicker, but it seems a lot of hassle - I'd have to create maybe 30 or 40 to cover the area I'm in, and each would need some overlap to prevent tracks appearing off map, so there would be lots of duplication, leading to a lot of space being used up on my memory card.

Just a thought...

Thanks

Hi,
First sorry for my late answer.
The out-zoom is quite limited but there is a reason.
The more you zoom out the more the application will need to load in memory a large area. At a time, there will be no more memory and the application will crash.
The out zoom is currently limited to x0.5 (open the bottom left tab to see it). In the settings panel, if you set the "Map size" setting to "Large", you will be able to un-zoom to x0.3 which is a bit better (but depending on your phone this can crash the app, use with caution).

Concerning your map creations:
Consider you need 2 zoom levels (1:25k and 1:50k) for a given area. It seems you created one AQM map for 1:25k and another for 1:50k.
Maybe a better way could be to split the area in 2 parts, and to create an AQM map for each area part that include both zoom levels.
Doing that, you will have the same area covered, the same size, the same number of files (2), but you will be able to zoom from 1:25k to 1:50k immediately (because you don't need to load another map).
Let me know if I am not clear.

Best regards

Thanks for the reply. I had the Canvas size set to Small and that was only allowing me to zoom out to x1.0. I've changed it now to Big and now it does allow me to zoom out to x0.3 like you suggest - and thats pretty much exactly what I wanted :)

You're other suggestion is a great idea - I had indeed created 2 maps, 1 for 25k and 1 for 50k, I'll regenerate them as you suggest.

Thanks again
