Map protection

Post by alexlong »

Hi all.

Is there any way to protect MBTiles and KMZ maps from being copied? There are some unique depth maps of certain water areas, which were made personally by one person for fishing based on echo sounder data? This work took several years. The person has been using them in AlpineQuest for many years.
The maps fell into the wrong hands in 2019 and were further distributed unfairly, they were even traded.
Now updated maps of the water areas are being prepared, and the man fears that his work will be used again without his permission.

Hi Alex,
Unfortunately I don't think this is possible with those formats.
You cannot protect a file from being copied (and maps are just regular files).
A way to protect a map would be to add a password before opening it, but I don't know any map format that allow this...
Regards
