Will Online Placemarks be expanded to hold more fields and color / icons etc in the future?

Yes absolutely that would be great.
A lot of improvements were planned for the online placemarks, but this the lack of time unfortunately it has been delayed.
So at some point it should be available, but unfortunately I cannot tell you when right now.
