[closed] Failed action "import" .KMZ file

AlpineQuest is a great app, I am a long time user meaning that I have upgraded from the lite app many years ago.

Recently I bought a TasMaps .kmz map and tried to import as per the alpinequest instructions, only to end up with a error message...

The requested action "import" failed.

I then tried downloading to my SD card instead and ended up with the same error message.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers...

edit...

There were 2 separate maps from TasMaps, one was about 30megs, the other 34megs.
I also tried importing using "landmarks" rather than maps, with the same result.

Hi and thanks for your support,
First be sure to use the last version.
Then, here is the tutorial for importing KMZ layers: https://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/v2/ ... import-kmz.
If it's what you have done, after getting the error message could you make an error report from the app? (main menu -> More -> Error report).
Sorry for the troubles,
Best regards

Thankyou. No change with error...error report sent (although it says "zero" errors?

Hi again and sorry for the delay.
Thanks for the error report. It says no errors because no error has been displayed, only a warning message. But it's still very helpful for me.
Based on the report, it seems there is a problem reading the map image inside the KMZ file.
Do you know the image format which is used? (must be either JPG, PNG or GIF).

No idea, but here is a link to the download if that might help?

Hi again,
I've been looking at your website and I've 2 news, one bad and one good.
The bad news is the TasMap produces KMZ maps with Tiff images which are not supported by the application, only JPG, PNG and GIF are.
The good news is that you can add those maps to the app like this: open the suggest a map tool and fill URL with "http://tas.gov.au" and tap OK.
Regards

Sorry to re-open the thread...

I did as you suggested, use "suggest a map", and I now have Tasmaps showing in my "on-demand" maps, however there is nothing in the underlying folders (Topo Digital etc).

Where do I go from there?

Hi again,
I'm not sure to correctly understand the problem.
If you select "Digital Topo" for example, do you see the map displayed?

No. The folder is empty. It comes up with a message saying "out of bounds map".

Do i still have to download a map into that folder?

The "suggest" action above only added the TasMap in your "on-demand" maps. There is no file created or anything else.
You can select those maps as explained here: https://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/v2/ ... and-change
The application will automatically download, store for offline use and display the areas you're looking at.
To store a complete area for offline use, you can use this tool: https://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/v2/ ... store-area

You can get more informations on how on-demand maps work here: https://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/v2/maps
