[closed] Track recorder issue

I cannot get AQ to continuously plot location in order to record a track. This has been a problem with both Android 6 & 7 on my new phone (Samsung A320 (2017). As soon as the screen goes off, it stops recording position, resuming (with a notification sound) as soon as the screen is activated again.
Within AQ I have unchecked 'Disable in background' in GPS localisation options.
Within Android, I have specified AQ GPS Hiking as an unmonitored app.
Am I missing out some setting?

Hi,
Within AQ I have unchecked 'Disable in background' in GPS localisation options.
You can re-activate it, it's only for the real-time positioning. The track recorder won't be stopped by this setting.
Do you have any cleaner application? Some have options to kill all running apps on screen off.
Also, the track recorded is not running in the same process than the application itself. It's running in a light separate process (so you can completely stop the application). Be sure to white list this process (called AlpineQuest Agent).
Let me know if it doesn't help.

Thanks for the response. I've no killer apps installed. The problem is evidently due to Android 7's battery power saving options. If this is switched off AQ records my track continuously, including when the screen is inactive. If power saving is selected, either mid or full, track recording stops as soon as the screen becomes inactive, restarting when it's reactivated. AlpineQuest Agent doesn't appear in the list of apps in Settings|Device Maintenance|Battery|Unmonitored apps|Select apps so it is not possible to add it to the list of unmonitored apps.

Hi again and sorry for the delay.
I don't exactly know what saving mode you're using (there are so many different ones depending on the Android versions and devices), but the stock Android 7 battery power saving mode
does turn off location access for all background applications (all applications when the screen is off). So if you're using this mode, this is the expected behavior. And this is a device broad mode (not per application).
Here is the mode I'm talking about with the disclaimer about the location service.
The "do not monitor application" setting usually controls the "Doze" mode (make the device hibernate when the screen is off, pausing all applications).
Hope it helps
Let me know if you have more details.

Hello,
I have the same kind of behaviour on a Xiaomi Redmi 6 that runs Android 8.1.0.
With screen off, recording works for about one hour and then stops. After that the points are about one hour apart!
I already set battery savings for Alpinequest to unrestricted. I can't find Alpinequest Agent in the list and it does not appear in the notification bar either like I think it did on my previous phone.
Any suggestion ?
Thanks

Hi,
There are various settings that may cause the app to go in economy mode and disable the GPS while screen is off depending on your device.
You can have a look at known settings here:
https://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/v2/ ... k_recorder.
Hope it helps

I unfortunately already went through these settings but couldn't find one that is effective.
Does anybody have a device running with Oreo without this kind of problem ?

Hi again,
I really think it has to do something with your device, as it comes with MIUI which proudly advertise it's built-in with "
solution to deal with these rogue apps"...
They also give the 3 settings used to controls it:

This link is very interesting. Unfortunately even using all the possibilities shown does not solve the issue.
It however seems that if I carry the phone on me (instead of having it in a bag that is in the boat), then it does work normally.
I suspect that if motion is detected (by the motion sensor), then the gps is not disabled (maybe it avoid the transition between light doze and deep doze).

Hi again,
If you have disabled the doze mode for AlpineQuest as explained in the link give above (
here, second title), then the device should not pause the application, even when the phone is not moving. But MiUI likes to do things differently...
In all cases, the device get the locations from GPS satellites, which signals are very low, so it's very important to have your device in open air... Some devices have better chips and can be used under a light bag, but some just don't like it! So check this point too.
