The data error text/ plain messages b are barely visible because it is gray color. Therefore you should use a pair of colors that are resistant to all kinds of backgrounds no matter what background it is. That pair happens to be I think it's a black outline and white letters within the outline.

It's true, hopefully you shouldn't see them too often!
More seriously I'm sure that if I make them more visible some users will complain.
All the thing is to make them readable while leaving them discreet...
