Just before I took the screenshot the auto target would have moved to the nearest waypoint, so I moved the map centre slightly and the auto target reverted to the wrong waypoint.

Yesterday I found I could be standing at a waypoint, but the next nearest waypoint would still be targeted. It seemed that once I moved out of the proximity of the nearby waypoint (away from the targeted waypoint) that the correct waypoint would then be targeted. As I walked towards the next waypoint it would again fail to be targeted until I had passed it by some distance.
