[fixed] Landmark Open URL Function Missing !!!

Hi,

May I please refer you to my very first post from April 2013...
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1293

You implemented a feature for me whereby a route, stored as a GPX file, could be associated to a landmark, via the URL field. There was an "Open URL" option within the landmark menu which would display this route when selected.

I still use this feature FREQUENTLY and consider it to be a key feature of AQ, vital to me.

The very latest version of AQ appears to have dropped the landmark "Open URL" option. Please re-instate it ASAP.

This functionality worked perfectly in all versions prior to the most recent.

Also, what would be really nice would be to display the route with a long press on the landmark description.

For example, a short press on the landmark already displays one, or more, route descriptions in the near vacinity, which it gets from the GPX file of all available routes. I would like to be able to display a specific route with a long press on its associated description. Currently a long press here has no effect. A short press on the description opens up the standard landmark menu, which is missing the "Open URL" option.

Hi Yemble,
Sorry about the "Open URL" option, this is an error. This will be corrected in the next stability update. If you really need this feature now, I can tell you how to get back the previous 1.4.22 version.
Concerning the long press option, I don't really get it. But it seems a very specific feature...

I want to send you some screenshots from my tablet to illustrate what I mean, but this forum will not accept the files due to their size... not exactly helpful :-(

Screenshots sent via email. Hopefully I have clarified exactly where a long-press shortcut to "Open URL" would be extremely useful.

Many thanks for your email confirming the implementation of my suggestion above. I look forward to testing it next week when it is released :-)

I have just signed onto the beta testing programme expecting to see this missing Open URL issue fixed, as indicated in your mail last week. I received an updated version of AQ v2.01.r2926, but was incredibly disappointed to find that nothing has changed since the original v2 release.

How come?

Hi,
I just checked again and everything seems to work on my side...
When you long-press your landmarks (waypoint?) with the URL and select "Edit details", do you see something (your GPX file path) in the "Url" field?

Is AQ v2.01.r2926 the correct beta, as I may have followed the link from a different thread (ie. are there a number of different betas)? To be honest, I found the process of aquiring the beta somewhat convoluted and I was hoping that the maintenance release would have been released by now (as you originally suggested). Do you have a revised ETA for this?

In answer to your question, yes, the path to the GPX file in the Landmark details is exactly as it was in the previous version of AQ, where it worked perfectly. Also, the "Open URL" option is still not on the Landmark menu, which is why I am wondering whether, or not, AQ v2.01.r2926 is the correct version.

Hi again,
v2.0.1.r2926 is the correct (and fixed) maintenance release (2.0.1) beta.

The "broken" part was the import from the GPX to the internal format (in other word, the "import from GPX" process was not importing the URL field for waypoints).
So if you encountered this problem, I guess that you did import your waypoints with URLs from a GPX file.
Just import this file again with the new version (v2.0.1.r2926) and you will see your URLs (do not use the one imported with the previous version as URLs are still missing).
Let me know

Ahh, that explains it. I didn't realise that the GPX file needed to be re-imported.

Now it works perfectly, exactly how I had envisioned it. I also noted the "Un-display" function for hiding the displayed route.

Excellent, thank you very much :-)

No problem.
That's great if it's working as you expect.

And yes, "Remove" has been renamed to "Undisplay" to avoid confusion with "Delete" (it wasn't clear for some users that Remove did not delete the item, but only remove it from the map).

Looks like I spoke too soon. It works perfectly on my NotePro tablet (CM12.1), but not on either of my S3 phones (CM13). I'll explain when I have a little more time, but it looks like a pathing issue on Marshmallow. Note that the previous version of AQ works perfectly on the same devices running the same operating systems.

My GPX URLs contain a path that contains /mnt/extSdCard/ as a virtual path to the microSD where the GPX_Routes folder exists. Below this are folders containing groups of GPX files, each containing a single route. When I look in a file explorer, I can see a extSdCard symbolic link on the tablet (CM12.1 Lollipop), but NOT on either of the S3 phones (CM13 Marshmallow). I am guessing that this is causing the issue in AQ v2. However, this not does not explain how it ever worked in AQ v1.

I'm going to try relocating my GPX_Routes folder onto the device storage /mnt/sdcard/ which exists on all devices. I did try creating the missing simlink on one of the phones, but it did not fix the problem in AQ v2, moreover, it disappeared after a reboot. I really hate Linux !

Hopefully relocating to the device storage will sort things out... I'll let you know.
