[closed] GPS won't lock in using Alpine Quest

I've been using Alpine Quest (AQ) on my Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100 running Android 4.0.4) for over a year. All worked well initially. However, I have recently been experiencing problems with the GPS failing to lock onto satellites. With the phone outdoors with a clear horizon, the GPS position window indicates "Source GPS (0/n sats)", the lock button is red indicating no lock obtained, and the bar display showing n satellites detected (with corresponding number of black bars). After a short time (10-20 secs), the bar graph resets to no bars displayed, it builds up again to n satellite bars, but no lock, and resets again. This can go on indefinitely.
I have checked the phone GPS system with another app (GPS Test) and this will get a lock outdoors using 6+ satellites in a few seconds!
Interestingly, if I turn ON the AQ Location Tracker function, the GPS locks in within seconds, and GPS behaves perfectly OK for as long as the Location Tracker is enabled - but not without it.
I have un-installed and re-installed AQ - same issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in anticipation!
