I'm guessing that this is still another irritating restriction from the Google/Samsung/mobile service provider people, following on the Android 4.4 changes, but...
1) The AlpineQuest logo that normal identifies the app disappeared from my screen, replaced by a generic Android icon. AlpineQuest remained functioning.
2) I can no longer access my gizmo as a USB device on my computer, but must remove its SD card in order to transfer data between my computer and the AlpineQuest storage. I recognize that this is not directly a problem for AlpineQuest, but, if, as I am guessing, this is another change instigated by Google/Samsung/et al, I am hoping that developers of affected apps may have more influence than I have in getting the problem fixed. The key point is that AlpineQuest (and, I presume other similar apps) is considerably harder to use than it was previous to these changes.

I am using a Galaxy S III, Android 4.4.2.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi and thanks for your feedback.
I don't think that both issues are a normal behaviors.
Concerning the application icon, have you tried to move the application install place from/to the external SD card? If the application is installed on the external SD card and this one is removed, then you can't start it and you may have issues with the icon even if the SD card is present again.
Concerning the second point, I haven't heard about such problem. Maybe you should run a check on your card.
Let me know if you have any update,
Best regards
