I am running Alpinequest on a Nexus 7 and find that the battery usage is heavy (around 5 hours) compared to other map programs I have tried - Memorymap and Viewranger. I have tried turning off the Location Tracker but it makes little difference. Looking at the battery log Alpinequest accounts for 65% of the battery drain compared to 35% with Memorymap. Is such a battery usage to be expected and is there anything I can do to minimise it?
Thanks

Re: Battery Usage
Hi,
With a similar usage, the battery usage of the app should not be greater than any other application.
However it really depends on what you're making (especially when discovering the application and using all features altogether): storing maps on 3G/4G/Wifi, using the GPS, using the compass, using the tracker, all that uses lots of hardware resources and so battery. You should always try to store maps, create landmarks, trying features, etc while connected to a power source.
Then, when using the app outside, try to only display stored maps, limit compass usage, close the app while tracking (it doesn't stop the tracking), etc.
With my few years old HTC Desire and original battery, I'm able to track day long hikes.
Best regards
