AlpineQuest & OfflineMaps

Dear Team,

after have updated my Samsung Galaxy S4 to the last version 4.4.2 Android version last week, your application is not more able to save and store offline maps into the external SD card. If I change the settings and I select to save maps on internal storage everything works fine, but if I go back in settings and I chose again the SD external card, when I try to use the function to store offline maps, I receive an error's window about: "open failed, permission access denied" on SD path, and the store is not possible because the download collect all errors.

This issue is due to the fact that Android 4.4 doesn't allow anymore applications to write (anywhere) on the SD Card.
We will soon release an update to handle this problem.
Meanwhile, could you tell me your app version so I can tell you if there is anything to do right now?

Thank you for your answer. I had a suspect about that having read some notes on internet. I hoped you had already an update for this...
However, my app version is the last one I think: 1.4.14

The new version has been released, this problem should be fixed.

Thank you for your answer. I have been outside my country for a two weeks, and after my return I hoped to have available the new version 1.15 on Google play for an automatic installation, but unfortunately it is not yet on it.
Could you tell me when the new version will be ready for a standard installation from Google website?

Version 1.15 has been released about one week ago on the Google Play Store.
Check your updates (in the 'My applications' list), you should be able to see the new version.

Sorry, but if I go in Google Play Store and i find your application I can still see the version 1.4.14, updated to date 20 March 2014; exactly the same version I have installed on my device and for this reason my update function doesn't find any new update to execute for your App. On the contrary in these days I received a lot of updates for others App.

The new version has been released on the Play Store and the update should be available very soon on your device.

OK, last nigth I received from Google Play the update of your application to the new version 1.4.15.
I installed it and then inside the application settings I set storage place on SD Card, with the parameters: unit path: "/storage/extSdCard/" and application path: "/storage/extSdcard/aplinquest/".

Then i tried to store offline some maps or create some tap points, but unfortunately I receive again the errors that the application can have access (permission denied) to the extSdCard...
Following some instructions already provided on this forum, i tried also to manually create the path "/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/net.psyberia.offlinemaps/" using USB connection from PC and force this path also in storage location of the APP, but the result in this case is that when program start, I receive the error that there is no memory card present and so functionalities are restricted....

So the application is still not working with Ext SD card and it's really a pity because in this way I'm making full my internal device memory....

We have updated the online help to explain how to store the data on the External SD card for Android 4.4 devices:

• For AlpineQuest GPS Hiking: http://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/1.4/settings/storage
• For All-In-One Offline Maps: http://www.offline-maps.net/en/help/settings/storage

Please note that making external SD cards no more writable by applications has been decided by the Android team and we, as applications developers, have no other choice than accepting that.

Thank you very much for this update hat has clarified me the situation about the folder which must be created.
Now I created it and cmoved my data from internal memory to the external SD card and the application is now able to work and write with Ext. SD. Thank you very much.

I was aware that the blocking on SD card was not decided by you, but some others application and developer had already solved this issue while your first notes about the right folder to use have created some confusion in my installation.

However now everything is fine and I'm really happy to be able to continue to use your APP.

Note also that when using this SD card folder, Android will delete it when uninstalling the app, so be careful if you want to keep tracks or any stored data if you do that.

Hello, I am having the same issue with the SD Card and have tried to create the folder as you recommended but still get the error message "No memory card present". When I have the app open and look at the SD Card I see: Device path:/storage/extSdCard/ Application path:/storage/extSdCard/alpinequest/. When I browze my SD Card I dont see any Folder for Alpinequest. In the folder "Android" and then "Data" I tried to create the folder you recommended but still get the error. I could not put the "/" at the end of the folder name. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 running version 4.4.2.

You should not need any folder.
Just open the application settings, select 'Storage device' and then choose one of the listed available device as explained in the first screen shots here:
