What I mean is, when I try to download a map area and I increase the zoom bar past a certain point, the lumpy map bar I'm trying to download turns red. There's no documentation on it. What does it mean?

I'm using Offline-Maps because it allows me to store maps on my device. I wanted to try Alpine Quest but it won't let me save maps offline at all unless I cough up $10 and I'm not even sure I like the interface yet. It's not like I can return it if I don't like it.

Hi,
When the zoom bar turns red it means that you've reached the maximum amount of data you can store at a time. You'll have to restart the process few times if you want to store the complete area.
I have updated the online help on this subject: http://www.offline-maps.net/en/help/map ... store-area.

Concerning your other question, AlpineQuest is very similar to Offline-Maps since it's built on it, and add features related to hiking and sport in general, like a GPS location tracker. The interface is the same. There is more info here: http://www.alpinequest.net/.
Note that there is a free Lite version. Also, if you've the full Offline-Maps version and you get AlpineQuest full, we can refund you the first one.

Best regards
