[done] Creating routes with a mouse?

Post by jsoap »

Hi,

I usually take a netbook on trips, to plan out hikes/bike rides (using MM) as I go along. I'd like to ditch the netbook and use a tablet for the route creation, and then a smartphone for the hike.

I've tried using the create route feature and find it a little difficult, compared to creating routes on the netbook.
The netbook functionality is as follows - mouse click will create a wp, click and hold will allow you to move the map and the scroll wheel will zoom the map in and out.
It would be nice to have something similar, as an option, in Alpinequest.

Thanks

Hi and thanks for your interest in AlpineQuest.
There is already something similar, please have a look at the online help:
http://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/1.4/landmarks#tracks, section 'how to manually create a track'.
Regards

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, I've read the help pages, and created routes as per the examples.
I just find the process of moving the map, releasing, then adding the waypoint, to be awkward and slow.
Using a mouse would be much quicker and allow for better precision.

Did you use the "create track" feature, not the "create route" one?
With manual tracks, you don't need to add locations, just push the "draw" button and then move the screen, like if it was the mouse.
Have a look at the last screen-shots: http://www.alpinequest.net/en/help/1.4/ ... eate-track

You are right, I was following the create route. I'm actually trying the All-in-one offline product, so the track option does not appear. I'm not sure that the track creation method will work for me either - I guess I'm too used to clicking and dragging.
Thanks

Ah ok I'm sorry about that then.
You're right, right now you don't have this option so, but it should be available in the next update.
Sorry again

I guess that this is a common complaint for users coming from a desktop environment to Android. Moving the map, rather than the cursor seems strange and difficult to master at first. But stick with it and it will become second nature, just like a mouse. The AQ method makes perfect sense for a touchscreen interface.

Yes you're right, right now it's like holding the mouse and moving the screen... :)

OfflineMaps 1.8 is now available with this new feature.
