I've now had the chance to run an extended download on my S3 phone, with a tile maximum of 100000. The selected area included both 1:50K and 1:25K tiles. AQ detected that over 60000 tiles required downloading and the process ran for over five hours, with 143 failed tiles.
At no point did this process crash. The process was run with the screen both on and off. Both battery and mains power were also used during the download.
This proves to me that the process is robust and that there is no inherent time or capacity related fault in AQ.
As I have commented before, the only obvious improvement for me, would be an option to retry the failed tiles at the end of the process.

Re: Store Area Function - Practical Limits To Offline Maps?
Thanks for the feedback.
I have made few improvements for the next version including a speedup of the process and a re-download of failed tiles, see here for more details.
Best regards
