[closed] app folder

Post by rl101 »

I love Alpine Quest except for the behavior of saved information, I just don't understand how the app works.

From time to time, I lose my bookmarks and saved areas. So I decided to do some tests to try and understand what happens.
First, the storage location is the SD card in the default AlipineQuest folder right in the root of the internal SD card.

Too keep this simple I will only discuss on behavior at a time.
Displayed maps:
I open AlpineQuest, only the base map is displayed.
I add 3 new layers (Open street, Hiking/Cicling, and Outdoor)
I close the app.
Go back in the app and my layered maps are all showing, everything looks good.
I close the app.
I delete all of the folders in the app folder (Internal storage)
I turn on the app (the app recreates all of the folders).
The 3 new layers are still there.
Question. If I deleted all of the folders in the app, how can the app know I had added these 3 layers?
Thanks

Hi and thanks for your interest in this application!
You said that you set the application folder on the SD card, but removed the data on the internal storage. That shouldn't be the case.

Please double check in which folder the application store all its data. To do so, please have a look at here.
The application will store all data inside this folder, nowhere else.
If you delete this folder, all data (stored maps, saved placemarks) will be deleted.

I was unclear the default folder is all internal memory. So everything that happens there is in internal memory.
But I think that I found a way to easily restore the maps if they somehow go away. I tried using a workspace and it makes it much simpler to backup to the sd card and restore if I somehow lose any of my maps, favourites and landmarks.

Hi again and thanks for the additional details.

If you see that some files mysteriously disappear from time to time, it may be due to a device "cleaner" application. Some of them simply deletes unknown files...
