[closed] Lost Third Party Map Data

Post by Mike Bedford »

I have been using Alpine Quest Lit for a few months with Memory Map 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey data of the northern part of the UK.

I was walking 3 days ago and, while the map image was available at the start of the walk (as it always has been previously), 2 hours into the walk it disappeared. I tried forcing Alpine Quest to stop and restarting it which made no difference and I also tried switching the phone off and on again which also made no difference.

At some point during the above process, I went to Displayed Maps in the Map menu and was able to re-select the OS 1:50,000 data but it didn't last long and, at some time, it became no longer listed under Display maps. I therefore tried to select the data under Available Maps but, on navigating to the file and trying to select it, I received the Alpine Quest error message "This feature is not available in this free version". Has the ability to use third party mapping been removed from Alpine Quest Lite and, if bot, what has gone wrong and how can I correct it.

Hi and sorry for the delay,
If I correctly understand you, you're using AlpineQuest Lite (free version)?
If so, it's strange that you were able to use those maps previously, since only built-in maps are available in the free version (but it's good for you!)...
Also, if your maps are stored on your external SD card, it's possible that you've some kind of issue with it and the data becomes unavailable at some points...
Please give me more details on your config so I can try to better help you.
Best regards

Sorry for the delay. These things tend to take a back seat when I'm not planning on walking.

To confirm, though, yes I'm using the free version and the mapping data is on internal memory, not an SD card.

From what you say it seems that I should never have been able to use additional mapping data. I would suggest this needs addressing, though, as I hadn't realised that with the result that I started out on a walk and, half way through, I lost the map. On this occasion there was good visibility so it wasn't a problem but it could have been very different.

Guess I need to upgrade.

Regards,
Mike
