Hi,

I purchased the full version of the AQ software primarily in order to view my Memory Map .qct maps (UK OS Landranger mapping). Everything worked perfectly well until I updated my Android Operating System software to the very latest version (5.1). My .qct maps now draw incredibly, painfully slowly. It has effectively rendered the .qct maps unusable. I literally have to wait minutes for the maps to draw whenever I scroll or zoom in/out. Please help.

Hi,
Here are two ideas for you:
- Try to move one map from one storage of your smartphone to another: if your maps are stored on your external SD card, try to move one into the internal storage and load it (or vice-versa), to check if your problem doesn't not come from a memory read issue;
- Also, you may try to import one test map (use the smallest one) into the app's built-in format: from the Maps Explorer long-press one .QCT map and select "Import". The map will be converted in another format which is very fast to read/display for the application. Note that the import may be quite long depending on the size of your map, but you'll have to do it only one time. Then check how fast the new format is fast to display.

First, thanks for the help. It has to be said that support for this software is amongst the best I've ever encountered.

My device is a Nexus 4 purchased direct from Google hence my memory is all internal, there is no SD card capability with this hardware. I have tried moving the .qct files to a different folder but it makes no difference to the problem. Also, because the device is Google's own, I am bullied into updating the operating system with alarming frequency and every update seems to bring more irritation, less functionality, and a load of unnecessary bling.

I have 3 x .qct Memory Map files that form the OS Landranger series. These are about 8Mb, 135Mb and 3.1Gb in size. I have imported the two smaller maps as advised above and - in their converted state - they work perfectly. They draw as quickly as I can scroll or zoom.

Importing would seem to be the answer unless the existing .qct files can somehow be reconciled with Android 5.1.

Given the time it takes to import files is it even feasible to import the 3.1Gb file? I found that when my device's screen times-out the import process seems to go into a paused state. Even setting my time-out to the longest possible duration of 30 minutes it took over 2 hours of fiddling about to import the 135Mb file.

I can't imagine it is feasible to import the 3.1Gb file so is there another way of converting .qct files, or any prospect of a fix for the incredibly slow drawing rates in Android 5.1?

Hi again,
Based on the time required for the 135MB maps, I agree that it won't be possible to import the big one...
Unfortunately there is currently no tool allowing you to import your QCT maps without using the application.
Another solution for you would be to use an online map, since the Landranger map is available in the community maps (list online maps, click on "Add more maps" and select "UK maps". You'll be able to store areas of the map for offline use, just like your MM maps.

I have no clue why but when I went to address this issue yesterday all my loaded .qct file worked just as when I originally installed the app some time ago. They are now drawing as quick as they ever did and normal service is, for now, resumed.

I haven't installed, uninstalled, or in any way updated any app so I have no suggested trigger as to why this seems to have sorted itself out.
