[done] High resolution map setting
[done] High resolution map setting
I have installed the app onto my Memopad ME173 and loaded a 25000 OS explorer map, I thought the 1280 x 800 pixel resolution would allow the High Resolution Map setting to be selected but this is greyed out, can someone explain why? please.

Re: High resolution map setting
Hi,
It means that your map is in high resolution already, and cannot be displayed otherwise.
On some 'high pixel density' screens with very small pixels, it can lead to a map displayed very small so the need of turning off this feature.
Maybe this option should be hidden instead of disabled in this case.
Best regards

Re: High resolution map setting
Even with 'high resolution map' turned off the map text ( place names road numbers etc) on my 1920 x 1280 pixel tablet is much too small and difficult to read which is a shame as otherwise it all looks excellent.
I also have a copy of MyTrails which has an interface setting to deal with this issue.
How do I make the maps bigger?

Re: High resolution map setting
You can also use the zoom slider to display the map bigger:
In the application settings:
- "Zoom controls": select "Buttons and slider";
- Uncheck the setting "Lock zoom on canvas".
Then use the zoom slider (right of the map screen) to set the zoom you want.

I don't have a "Lock zoom to canvas" but I do have a "Lock zoom on levels" - is that what you mean?AlpineQuest wrote:You can also use the zoom slider to display the map bigger:

The zoom control is extremely coarse - bit if I try hard I can get to a zoom level where the text is bigger - but it's not really a workable solution because as soon as I pinch zoom or hit + or - to see the bigger (or smaller) picture - which I do need to do - the effect is lost and I'm back to tiny text again.
I can't be the only one with this problem - there are lots of retina screen Android tablets - what is really needed are more 'high resolution' levels as implemented in MyTrails?

Re: High resolution map setting
Hi again,
Here is a little more explanation about what's happening:
The application works with "virtual pixels", devices then should compute the optimal ratio between real device screen pixels and virtual pixels. This allows applications to have a similar display on all screen types.
It seems that your device does not compute a correct ratio, since you report the display as very small (the app. display is good on the S5 even if it has a very high screen definition). That's there are not much people with this behavior (the only other reported device having this issue is the Dell Streak; both "non conventional" devices).
Anyway, I have improved this setting so you can choose between large display to very small display (and not only medium or small).
Best regards.

Re: High resolution map setting
Hi again,
Having the ability to select different "map resolutions" in AQ 1.4.16 is very convenient.
In previous versions, the hi - res resolution option (for my GS3) makes the labels a bit difficult to read in certain areas.
So I turned off the high res temporarily, but then the map is too zoomed and lacks precision and the area covered is too small.
Now that we can select the resolution with more control, it would be great to have an intermediate value as following :
- small (default for my GS3) : unchanged, equivalent as high res enabled in previous versions
- medium : the new intermediate value
- big : equivalent to high res disabled in previous versions / equivalent to medium in AQ 1.4.16.
Thanks.
Best regards.

Re: High resolution map setting
Hi,
I'll try to add medium(-) and medium(+) values in the next version. The new medium(+) would be your suggested medium.
Medium currently corresponds to "1 map px" = "1 device screen dip(device independent pixel)", so I think it make sense to keep it named medium.
Best regards

Re: High resolution map setting
Hi,
Instead of medium+ / medium-, why not simply using numeric values ?
Something like that :
×1.75 = very big
×1.5 = big
×1.25
×1= medium
×0.75 = the requested intermediate value
×0.5 = small
×0.25 = very small
But I'm fine with your proposal.
Thanks anyway.

Re: High resolution map setting
Hi again,
I have released the new version (and even an updated one tonight).
On the contrary of what I have said previously, I have not displayed the ratios. I have tested with them and it added a lot of 'technical' data which seemed very complicated. The ideal solution would be to add the ratios on a second line, written in small, but it's not easy to do as it is now. This is for a future update.

- Very Small = x0.5
- Small = x0.67
- Medium Small = x0.8
- Medium = x1.0
- Medium Big = x1.14
- Big = x1.33
- Very Big = x2.0

Hi,
No problem.
Thanks anyway for the update with the new intermediate ratio.
Best regards.
