[closed] Exaggerated Elevation summary in Location Tracker

Post by pinkyperk »

I now use AQ on a Samsung Note 3 phone. Everything is working fine apart from the calculation of some statistics when recording a route. As an example I recorded a route recently of distance 23.5 Km and the maximum Elevation during the walk was approx 350 m. The graph shows quite a few spikes and therefore the max elevation is shown as 782m on tracker, but the main issue for me is that gain/loss is extremely large - in this case 26730m/ -26802m. The moving speeds Up and Down are also large at +10377 m/h and -9695 m/h. I am attaching the log file for this walk. This problem occurs each time I use the tracker. I didn't have this problem on my previous phone (Samsung Note 2). I have tried deleting the app and re-installing it, but it doesn't make any difference. I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you. I am using latest version of AQ

Thanks a lot for this report and sorry for that numbers...

It's clear on your graphic that the problem comes from the pressure data, which is absolutely not smooth.
Unfortunately your barometer gives this unstable data... The app smooth the data, but in this case some values are completely out of range, and should be simply ignored.

The only thing to do right now if to disable the Barometric elevations feature: from the details view, click on the 'Edit' button in the 'Statistics settings' section, and un-check 'Barometric elevation'.
The stats will then use the GPS elevations and ignore pressure data (you can display all your previously recorded tracks to see the fixed values).

Finally, it would be great if you could email me a .TRK file of a track showing this problem, so I can see if it's possible to add a filter or something like that.

Best regards

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have deleted all my recent recorded tracks (except for saving them as gpx files) and so I cannot as yet send you a trk file, but I will be out on Sunday and will try your suggestions and record a further track and report back. Kind Regards. David

Hello, and I have now disabled the barometric measurement on my phone foloowing your advice. It has made a big difference and I am now getting a good figure for elevation which compares favourably with that estimated on my computer. For info you can see my latest recorded info. Thanks again. Regards. David

Thanks for the update.
Don't hesitate to send me a track so I can work on this weird behavior.
