[done] Altimeter based on barometer

Post by jloe »

New devices such as my Galaxy Note have a barometer incorporated that could be used as an altimeter, since once calibrated it is much more precise than the gps.

I would like to have this feature integrated in Alpinequest.

Hi
Yes you're right that could be a nice feature.
I'll have a look at what is possible to do with this sensor.
I have added it to the suggested features list.
Thanks for the feedback,
Best regards

Hi,
Just to let you know that version 1.2.12 handle built-in barometer.
The support is quite basic right now, since you need to manually calibrate it, however AlpineQuest will compute the elevation using it, and the pressure difference from the awaited altitude-pressure that can gives an idea of the weather forecast.
Best regards

From what I've read in another post, it seems that the built-in barometer is only used upon request for having a precise altitude.
I'd really like to see the barometer be used during tracking. Then the altitude gain / loss, the altitude profile ... would be more precise.
Thanks.

Hi,
Yes that would be great.
I'll try to add this feature. I haven't done it yet because it needs reflexion about how to automatically calibrate the barometer using the low precision GPS elevation. But I'll figure it.
I have added it to the requested features list.
Best regards
