But when he taps it it says "This place is empty."

It means there are 2 files in the folder but none of them is recognized and can be used by the application.

Well it should say something like that, else users are guaranteed to scratch their heads...
They will be sure to think it is a bug...
In fact perhaps it should give an error message with a copyable listing of what it found.
As there probably is some corruption of files going on. Or maybe they have the wrong three letter file extension, etc.
