tile engine

Post by kava »

Hello every one!

1. Is the tile engine of "Offline maps" android app an open source library?
2. Is there any way to use the tile engine in another application?
3. Is it possible to change the behavior of the current app in some way or the other? (ex. add another botton to app's UI or use some manually stored tiles)

Thanks ...

Hi and thanks for your interest in our application.
Unfortunately OfflineMaps uses its own map rendering engine, which is not open nor distributed, so cannot be used in another application.
If you're just talking about the (default) map itself, it's not generated by the application; it's graciously provided by Open Map Surfer (http://www.openmapsurfer.uni-hd.de/).
It's also not possible to change parts of the UI (we plan to let users add custom shortcut buttons but it's quite limited anyway). However there are ways to configure the application to use custom tiles (don't hesitate to ask for more details). Next versions will also be able to read various file based maps.
Sorry for not being able to help you more.
Best regards
