Add own data / legend to a map

Post by tropisch »

Hi,
some maps dont provide a legend (hope its correct in english: Legend explains the symbols,i.e. red house = restaurant, white house with red cross = hospital).
It would be nice to be able to add some own data / images to a map, for example in the maps Details where are already some Infos about the URL, Copyright, etc. -->
New: Personal Files
The image could then be viewed either within the app or by an external app of choice.

As an example:
I use the KOMPASS maps from ecmaps.de, but its hard / annoying to find the explanation while being outdoor.
My solution right now is to download / make screenshots of the legend and save them on my phone. Its ok, but it is annoying to go to the android galery and find the pictures then.

Yes I guess you can say "legend" or "key" in English.
There is already a way to provide a map key (actually an url to it), but it's not really used I confess and most map either don't provide one or it's not added in the app.
Have the look at the "Standard Carto" map in the "OSM Maps" group, long press this map from the available maps list or from the displayed maps list, the tap "Map key"...
Do you like AlpineQuest ? Leave a small comment on Google Play !

Yeah, i found that Map Key, but its not available on all maps.
That's why it would be nice if it would be possible for me/users to add an own key, i.e. as an image

Hello,

My small experience about maps legends in AlpineQuest ...
For maps without URL legends available, I've make some screenshots that I can use in overlay on AlpineQuest maps with a free application "Floating gallery".
I've created a folder in AlpineQuest directory named "Legends" easy to find when needed.
I've also created a perso button for Floating gallery in AlpineQuest menu.
See attached picture for result example.

Hi Boowoo
Do you have a weather app working in A.Q. over A.Q. maps??
Wow! and how? Probably to complicated for me.
My little simple solution for a quick and easy available map legend is take screenshots then pdf them. Add ReadEra app to the custom list of A.Q.
Friendly greetings

Hi,
It's a custom map displayed as a layer over any other map.
The legend is a screenshot from RainViewer site.

On the Russian forum 4pda in the part "AlpineQuest maps" I posted various different versions of this map so that you can make a "cartoon", as if the movement of clouds.

Hi Alex,

Could you upload on AlpineQuest site the different RainViewer aqx files from 4pda ?
It's really a pain to find them and logging in this russsian forum for no russian users ...

I continue to be OffTopic but seeing the visible interest of this map/layer (RainViewer), the AlpineQuest developer could integrate it in the map list in app ?
It should be great !
